real dream
I have a dangerously vivid and creative imagination, especially incendiary in the hands of a sadistic subconscious and a tormented soul. So this was my most recent dream--whatever I can remember of it...
I had my juris doctor, but I hadn't passed the bar. I was a rising comedian--it wasn't actually me, it was a younger, stronger woman than I am, but it was a "dream person," you know. After a quick, but scar-ridden rise to pre-fame, a visit to the Late Night show gives her/me the chance to deftly juggle and capitalize on an event which becomes known as the "up-stage incident." She/I smoothly slide(s) through the episode while continuously thrusting harpoons at the heart of Hollywood, and while providing a laugh at the 4.5th horseman of the apocalypse.
Months into the serendipity, at an appearance on the Tonight Show, someone says something off-handedly about her/my sudden rise to comedic stardom, to which I quite off-handedly reply, "Well, you know, this Hollywood thing is just a brief stop on my way to the White House."
The audience laughs. Jay Leno laughs. The Republican Party laughs. The Democrat Party does not laugh...
then i wake up.
